The Danarra
Story
It was once the home of a prominent
family in the Philippines. Now it' a first-class resort-hotel situated in the
heart of Quezon City.
More than a resort-hotel, DANARRA HOTEL, holds the story of a successful
entrepreneurial endeavor of the Sarmiento family.
The Danarra Hotel story dates as far as four decades back, the seven-bedroom
family house was like a minute structure over a vast one hectare land filled
with fruit trees and plants. The Sarmiento family's natural gregariousness and
hospitability brought to the household close friends and visitors, which
prompted Don Pablo Sarmiento and his wife Eufrocina to venture into the lodging
business. This plus the fact that the entire family was almost always abroad for
education and business, the family felt that instead of seeing their family
house worn-down, the idea of transforming it into a premier boarding house was a
profitable alternative.
In 1964, the Sarmientos transformed their huge house into the TOURIST HOMETEL.
Tourist Hometel is Danarra Hotel's original name. The "HOMETEL" being
coined from the words "home" and "hotel" which means a
lodging house. The outcome turned out to be extremely profitable that the
Sarmientos took a big step by expanding the Tourist Hometel in 1975 into a
full-blown hotel business complete with a food and beverage service.
With the expansion, the name Tourist Hometel was no longer appropriate. A new
name was needed. "Danarra Hotel" was thus conceived. The name Danarra
was borrowed from a popular plywood brand that the Sarmientos produced and sold
for local and export during that time. Danarra is derived from the the two
popular Philippine woods called Dao and Narra. The Danarra plywood was
well-known for quality. Because of the quality reputation and the uniqueness of
the name, the Sarmientos decided to use Danarra for the new hotel.
Over the years, Danarra Hotel has been a name that stuck in the minds of the
visitors and guests. Its name was spread by word-of-mouth to places as far as
Baguio in the north and Visayas and Mindanao in the south. The hotel guests have
experienced one thing in common — Danarra's warm hospitability. The hotel
experienced better than average occupancy. So the Sarmientos expanded. The hotel
now has a total of 86 rooms.
Over the years, Danarra Hotel has acquired many friends. These friends are
the loyal patrons of the hotel. And the number of new friends continue to grow.
Danarra believes in making and keeping friends to be the best way to growing a
business — specially, a hotel business. Danarra believes customer relationship
is more important than advertising.
The hotel has been a favorite venue for family outings and get-togethers. And
because of its proximity to government centers and commercial centers, Danarra
Hotel is also an ideal place for hosting seminars.
Serviced by its restaurant operations, Daungan
Restaurant, Danarra Hotel is a place where people meet
people, talk business, make deals, close deals, and make their success stories.
It is a place for seeking and finding romance. It is, in fact, a favorite
venue for wedding receptions.
Families celebrate birthdays. Hold family reunions. Or party just for the
sake of getting together.
Danarra is the next best thing to being home for nonresidents visiting the
City. It's really the place to be in Quezon City.
